Choose The Right Foods For Dogs - Grains
Whole grains are a very cost-effective way to provide the mainstay of your dog's diet. Not only do grains provide carbohydrates and numerous vitamins and minerals, but they are also an inexpensive source of protein. Also, when combining one grain with another grain, the overall effect of its protein is enhanced due to the effect the combination creates to the amino acids and the balance there of.
It should be noted, grains are definitely one group of foods that should always be cooked. The intestinal tract in a dog is much shorter than those animals that eat mostly cereals, such as cows and horses. Therefore, grains fed to dogs need to be predigested...in the form of cooking.

Thanks for this info! I'm not sure which grains to combine for the complete protein, nor how much protein a dog actually needs. You've started me thinking -- thanks! Dennis
